About IsshoNihongo!

What Does It Mean?

IsshoNihongo is a portmanteau of issho (一緒) and nihongo (日本語). “Issho” means together and “Nihongo” is how you say the Japanese language in Japanese.

How It All Started

Back in 2013, I was living in Los Angeles when I came to East Asia for the first time. I was going to be spending 10 days out of my 6 weeks in Japan.

As you do when you travel, I tried learning a few key words and phrases. Who would have known that it would be the beginning of a lifelong journey!

Now, going on 9 years living here in Japan, I created IsshoNihongo! in order to pass along the knowledge that I’ve accumulated about this wonderful language.

Here on IsshoNihongo! you will find lessons and musings on Hiragana, Kanji, Grammar and other random things that Japanese might throw at you! So let’s improve our Japanese – together.
